Medical Lab Scientist-Bacteriology
Summary
Performs laboratory testing of patient specimens in the Microbiology Department, Bacteriology section of the laboratory, including parasitology, culture reading, bacteria identification and antimicrobial susceptibility review.
Responsibilities
- Performs diagnostic/analytic testing of specimens.
- Interprets, documents and reports test results.
- Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Complies with good laboratory practice and regulatory requirements.
- Performs projects as assigned as well as serves as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff as needed.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist program.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or categorical ASCP certification in a laboratory specialty/sub-specialty as applicable to job responsibilities.
- State licensure if required by law.
- Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Previous experience in Microbiology reading culture plates preferred.
- Previous experience with Microbiology digital culture reading and laboratory automation preferred.

Pay
$33.82 - $50.73 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience
