Job Profile Summary
This role focuses on evaluating, developing, recommending, implementing, and carrying out policies and procedures related to high-quality patient care. It also involves performing language services duties such as translation and support for individuals with physical or mental impairments.
Job Overview
Under general supervision, this position provides accurate interpretation for patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), translating spoken language and culture between English and the target language.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interprets the spoken language from English into the target language and vice versa for patients, physicians, and staff.
- Participates in family meetings with social workers to assist in completing forms, obtaining financial aid, transferring patients, etc.
- Contacts non-English speaking patients to obtain consent signatures, give appointment notifications, and explain procedures, diagnoses, medical histories, etc.
- May accompany non-English speaking patients to operating rooms or other departments when necessary.
- May participate in patient/client care conferences.
- Translates correspondence, brochures, documents, and special diagnostic procedures from English into the target language.
- May be required to take on-call requests to be available for emergencies at night and on weekends.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues to contribute to the achievement of group goals and foster a positive work environment.
- Adheres to applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to patient/client care and personnel qualifications.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies (DPH, ERISA, etc.) and Home Health Foundation policies and procedures.
- Promotes confidentiality and follows HIPAA/HITECH guidelines.
- Participates in all mandatory in-services.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Medical Interpreter Certification from an accredited college or university OR Certification from a Medical Interpreter training course and successful completion of a third-party medical interpreter competency exam
- One (1) year of relevant interpreting experience
Bilingual Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of relevant experience
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read/write and communicate in both languages
- Advanced knowledge in interpreting techniques and medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures and treatments in both English and target language
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good organization skills
Pay Range
$23.04 - $28.80
