Medical Instrument Tech (Diagnostic Ultrasound)

About the role

This position is within the Coatesville VA Medical Center, providing treatment of medical, surgical, and psychiatric patients, both inpatient and outpatient services. The work requires a high degree of judgment in responding to both employee and patient concerns and providing solutions to process problems as they affect day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

- Performs, in a hospital setting all ultrasound examinations ranging from the routine to the highly specialized. - Performs Liver Elastography exams utilizing the elastography software. - Assists radiologist with all steroid injections that need to be performed under ultrasonic guidance (fingers, hands, shoulders) which includes knowledge of sterile technique. - Experience imaging structures while simultaneously obtaining Doppler signal, M-mode and recording images and Doppler shift recordings along with patient information for interpretation by a radiologist. - Receives and identifies patients using two (2) patient identifiers, explains methods of procedures, assists movement of patients to and from wheelchair, table, positions the patient and performs examinations as requested. - Controls technical factors on ultrasound unit, which will affect time, gain, amplitude, velocity, frequency, attenuation, absorption, reflection, scattering, refraction, and diffraction. Selects between non-focused, fixed-focus, linear phased array, an annular phased array. - Assists Lead Ultrasound Technologist in establishing protocols for routine examinations and makes independent judgments when it is necessary to deviate from standard procedures. - Advises radiologist of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing exam.

Qualifications

- At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. - Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols that pertain to diagnostic ultrasonography. - Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. - Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. - Certification: Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) is highly desirable. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desirable. - Preferred Experience: Certification in General Sonography (ARDMS AB) and Vascular imaging (RVT) is desired. Experience with a GE Logiq E10 is preferred.
