Medical ICU Nurse Educator

About the role

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration the Clinical Nurse Leader, the Unit Nurse Educator (UNE) practices within the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, MA Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics and demonstrates Lahey Clinic’s core values that reflect its Mission. The Unit Nurse Educator promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing expert nursing care to patients and functions as a clinical/educational resource to nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Ways in which nurses come to understand the problems, issues or concerns of patients/families, to attend to salient/critical information, and to respond in concerned and involved ways.
• Maintains clinical skills and assumes clinical/direct patient care for patients when necessary.
• Demonstrates organizational skills that maintain safe delivery of standard care for assigned patients/families.
• Performs systematic patient and family assessment relevant to practice settings.
• Evaluates effectiveness of care and adapts plan based on patient/family response.
• Collaborates with staff nurses on the assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and documentation of nursing care.
• Provides clinical education support to clinical nurses regarding quality metrics and disease management.
• Assesses and documents progress of practice nurses.
• Directly observes the delivery of care and to offer guidance to staff, especially for complex or difficult patient problems.
• Provides the staff with available resources and information to improve patient care outcomes as well as to develop their skills.
• Facilitates the coordination of care across the continuum and demonstrates safe practice within the domains of: Clinical judgment and decision making, Nurse-patient/family relationship, Clinical leadership, Clinical scholarship.
• Provides direct and indirect care to patients in collaboration with other health care team members.

Requirements

• Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or (ACLS) certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science, Nursing required.
• 3 years current, relevant nursing experience is required.
• An additional 1-3 years of training and education experience is preferred.
