Medical Genetics/Neurology Genetic Counselor
About the role
The Genetics Counselor will work with Nemours' medical genetics section and neurology specialists to support existing services and potentially expand the scope of involvement. They will provide care to pediatric patients and their families, collaborate with neurology specialists, and participate in clinical research studies.
Responsibilities
- Provide current and accurate information regarding genetic testing, informed consent, results interpretation, and recommendations
- Collaborate with other genetics providers during outpatient and inpatient genetics visits
- Complete chart preparation and obtain appropriate history and consent, providing genetic counseling and coordination of diagnostic testing and follow-up for individuals referred for clinical genetics assessment
- Assure complete and accurate documentation related to genetic information and genetic counseling in the medical record
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding clinical genetics by attending educational and scientific conferences and participating in continuing education regularly
- Supervise genetic counseling master program and other rotating students
Requirements
- Master’s degree from an Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling-accredited program and be either board certified or have active candidate status at the time of hire
- This is a shared position with pediatric medical genetics and neurology
- 3 or more years of experience highly preferred
