About the role
The Department of Internal Medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital is seeking a full-time Pulmonary / Critical Care Physician to join a dynamic team delivering care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities
- Rounding on the inpatient pulmonary service, including bronchoscopy and other procedures.
- Outpatient pulmonary clinics.
- Dedicated time rounding in the ICU, as well as procedures and to the response and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
- Nights shared equally on a rotating schedule.
- Supervision and teaching of residents and medical students from varied specialties.
- EPIC EMR system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages complex, high-acuity patients in a fast-paced, public hospital environment.
- Collaborates effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Expertise in critical care protocols, assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions.
- Communicates compassionately with patients and families, especially during end-of-life discussions and prognosis counseling.
- Maintains independence and takes initiative for professional development and community engagement.
- Improves patient outcomes and increases patient satisfaction through evidence-based and patient-centered care.
- Coordinates multidisciplinary care and reviews patient medical charts for diagnosis, treatment, and care management.
- Makes appropriate patient referrals as necessary.
- Maintains compliance with guidelines established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Health.
Qualifications
- Current Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited school of medicine.
- Residency training in Internal Medicine; fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Texas.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.
