About the role

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a board-certified adult psychiatrist for an immediate leadership position as Medical Director of Psychiatry at RWJ University Hospital Somerset in the inpatient involuntary unit. This is a full-time inpatient opportunity supported by a multidisciplinary team that helps to manage admissions, psychiatric evaluations, discharge summaries, and potential civil commitment proceedings. The Medical Director will direct and participate in team meetings, treatment planning, disposition, and other certifying requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the inpatient involuntary psychiatric unit
  • Direct and participate in team meetings and treatment planning
  • Manage admissions, psychiatric evaluations, discharge summaries, and civil commitment proceedings
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers and case managers
  • Opportunities to work in the inpatient setting, PESS unit, or as a consult liaison based on clinical preference

Requirements

  • ABPN board-certified or board-eligible in Adult Psychiatry
  • New Jersey licensed or eligible for licensure in NJ
  • Ideally experienced working in an inpatient setting
  • High energy, adaptable, and able to work on a team

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $315,000 to $505,000 per year. The compensation offered will depend on the candidate's educational background, skills, and professional experience.
