Medical Director Correctional Health

HealthcareFull-time

About the role

Parkland Health is seeking an experienced physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Correctional Health Services in Dallas. This role is more than a clinical leadership position; you will help shape how medical care is delivered across a complex correctional health environment. You will lead physicians and advanced practice providers, advance quality and performance improvement, and partner across Parkland to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the medical vision for Correctional Health Services and coordinate medical care across the program.
  • Build and lead high-performing clinical teams through physician recruitment, development, supervision, and retention.
  • Drive quality and performance improvement, identifying opportunities to strengthen care delivery, workflows, safety, and efficiency.
  • Partner across the health system with Behavioral Health, primary care, specialty clinics, emergency and inpatient services to support continuity of care.
  • Champion patient-centered care, including addressing social determinants of health and the unique needs of the correctional health population.
  • Guide clinical education and development for physicians, residents, students, and advanced practice providers.
  • Ensure clinical and regulatory excellence through adherence to applicable laws, policies, and accreditation requirements.
  • Serve as a trusted clinical partner to Parkland leadership, the Sheriff’s Department, physicians, employees, patients, families, and community partners.

Requirements

  • Board certification and successful completion of an ACGME or AMA-approved residency in the appropriate specialty.
  • Five years of management experience in clinical medicine programs.
  • Correctional health experience preferred.
  • Ability to practice medicine in Texas within 180 days of hire and meet applicable Medical Staff credentialing requirements.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, communication, relationship-building, and team development skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to lead effectively in a complex, evolving environment.
  • Spanish proficiency preferred.

Why this role

Correctional health demands a different kind of physician leadership—one that combines clinical excellence with collaboration, adaptability, advocacy, and a commitment to improving care for an often-underserved population. If you’re ready to lead at the intersection of medicine, public health, and correctional care, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact at Parkland.
