About the Role

This position is open to current TTUHSC employees only. The role involves diagnosing and treating patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders within the Montford correctional setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative supervision to clinical operations, patient care, and staff management.
• Design, implement, and assess mental health program developments, ensuring quality and adherence to best practice standards and regulations.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of supervisees.
• Coordinate with operational leaders on resource allocation, budgetary considerations, and institutional policies.
• Direct oversight of psychiatrists, psychologists, and advanced practice providers (APP) to ensure smooth clinical operations.
• Conduct legal proceedings such as involuntary inpatient psychiatric admission evaluations, civil commitment assessments, clinical capacity assessments, and compelled medication processes.
• Oversee clinical activities in accordance with unit treatment program guidelines.
• Coordinate onsite clinical education for psychiatric staff, clerkship for residents, medical students, and other trainees.
• Serve as the clinical Site Director for trainees from the TTUHSC Forensic Fellowship program.
• Provide backup to APPs for regional and in-house call to ensure continuous psychiatric coverage.
• Administratively oversee and monitor assigned employees, including updating position descriptions and conducting performance evaluations.
• Address employee complaints, resolve issues, and implement disciplinary actions as needed.
• Ensure Montford Psych Unit compliance with external auditing standards, executive directives, and institutional policies.

Requirements

• Current license to practice medicine by the Texas Medical Board.
• Current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience serving as a Medical Director for behavioral health in an inpatient psychiatric facility.

Visa Information

TTUHSC may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions at its sole discretion, subject to approval from the Texas Workforce Commission. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
