Position Summary
The Site Medical Director promotes and provides high-quality medical care under administrative and clinical supervision. They work collaboratively with various medical professionals and participate in discussions about quality of care, patient safety, and patient complaints.
Responsibilities
- Maintain utilization management and clinical practice standards through the application of organizational clinical criteria.
- Participate in the development of medical/clinical policies and provide case consultations to clinical staff.
- Manage chronic care clinics and sick call to prevent backlogs.
- Supervise infirmary rounds and review care plans for patients returning from hospitalizations, ER visits, and off-site specialty care.
- Review and sign-off on labs daily and ensure appropriate infirmary care is provided.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to staff physicians and mid-level providers.
- Communicate with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists to develop a holistic approach to healthcare.
- Address medical grievances with assistance from Site Managers and communicate regularly with the Warden/AWP.
- Perform death and case reviews and participate in monthly reviews of off-site care, DME utilization, provider practices, laboratory, and x-ray services.
- Assist in provider recruiting and training, and participate in audits.
- Ensure site clinical coverage and share in after-hours and weekend call duties.
Requirements
- Current West Virginia Medical license and Controlled Substance license.
- Current DEA certification.
- CPR certification required; CCHP certification preferred.
- Medical Degree required; Board certified or Board eligible preferred.
- Five (5) years of clinical experience preferred.
- Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
