Purpose

The Medical Director functions as part of the Executive Leadership Team and provides clinical leadership and oversight for all mental health and substance use services within the Wyandot Behavioral Health Network. This role ensures high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and supporting interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for clients and maintain an active caseload.

  • Provide medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction.

  • Supervise and support psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other prescribing providers.

  • Establish and maintain clinical protocols and standards of care.

  • Promote evidence-based practices in mental health and substance use treatment.

  • Attend executive leadership team meetings.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and program development.

  • Oversee medical services, including outpatient treatment and the crisis stabilization unit.

  • Monitor productivity, clinical outcomes, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., Medicaid, licensing bodies).

  • Develop and ensure prescribing practices meet all regulatory requirements and evidenced based practices.

  • Recruit, train, and evaluate medical staff.

  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship.

  • Complete performance evaluations of psychiatric staff.

  • Support interdisciplinary collaboration among therapists, case managers, and medical providers.

  • Represent the organization in professional and community settings.

  • Provide training or consultation as needed.

  • Support integration with primary care and social services.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.

  • Board certification in Psychiatry (e.g., via American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology).

  • Active medical license in the state of practice.

  • DEA certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community mental health or public sector settings.

  • Leadership or administrative experience.

  • Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare systems and integrated care models.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and leadership ability.

  • Knowledge of severe mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and trauma-informed care.

  • Knowledge and experience providing medication for opioid use disorders.

  • Ability to balance administrative duties with clinical responsibilities.

  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.

Reporting Structure

  • Supervises: Psychiatrists, psychiatric NPs/PAs, and other medical staff.

Work Conditions and Considerations

  • Based at the 47th Street location with light travel required to other locations, businesses, and community sites to meet organizational needs.

  • Workday regularly includes multiple and/or conflicting demands.

Salary Range

$100,000 and over
