Medical Director

Responsibilities

• Makes decisions regarding patient admission based on federal and state guidelines.
• Monitors the clinical aspects of patient care, including physical examinations and progress reviews.
• Develops medical policies and ensures staff members are up-to-date on continuing education requirements.
• Conducts periodic medical audits to evaluate patient medical follow-up.
• Evaluates and recommends psychotropic medications for patients under the supervision of contracted medical services, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, or mental health clinics.
• Provides in-house clinical training to nursing and counseling staff on an "as needed" basis.
• Assesses and verifies patients' histories of opiate dependence and current physical dependence.
• Serves as the primary point of contact for legal, financial, regulatory, and management matters related to the Corporation.
• Supervises all staff within the medical department.
• Provides in-service training for nursing staff on a regular basis.
• Meets with the treatment team on a PRN basis to discuss complex cases.

Requirements

• Three years documented experience in the provision of services to persons who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs, including at least one year of experience in the treatment of narcotic addiction with a narcotic drug.
• Board eligibility in psychiatry and two years of documented experience in the treatment of persons who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs.
• Certification as an addiction medicine specialist by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
• The physician must have a current registration issued by the States of NC and a current Drug Enforcement Administration registration number.
