About the role
This position involves transporting blood, blood products, campus mail, supplies, and medical equipment between various locations including processing/distribution centers, branches, blood drive sites, and hospitals. The schedule is part-time, working 600am - 230pm on Saturdays and Sundays with flexible scheduling required.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently and accurately transport unprocessed/processed blood and blood products, campus mail, supplies and medical equipment using assigned vehicle (van/small truck).
- Practice safe driving skills during transport; adhere to all driving regulations.
- Load and unload vehicles practicing safe techniques with lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Deliver inventory to specified points within a designated route (may include branches, hospitals, field trip sites, headquarters, & mobile units); may be required to deliver packages utilizing public transportation in emergency situations (e.g. airline, bus, train etc.).
- Keep log of items received and delivered; document daily activities as required.
- Conduct basic safety/readiness checks of assigned vehicle prior to departure per SOP; report any problems or mechanical issues.
- Work as back-up on-call driver for other shifts or routes as needed.
- Notify supervisor of any concerns, issues, and/or delays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months to one year route delivery experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Current and valid driver’s license in good standing.
Skills
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive for extended periods of time.
- Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
- Knowledge of proper handling of blood and blood products.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to be self-motivated and self-disciplined.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Benefits
The position offers a shift and weekend differential of $1.50 - $4.50 per hour based upon when hours are worked.
