Medical Clinical Associate-CVI GP1C Nursing-Mount Sinai Hospital-Full-time Day-12pm-8pm

About the role

The Medical Clinical Associate contributes to patient care in an ambulatory setting by performing a variety of technical and routine tasks under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, within the policies of the Department of Nursing and The Mount Sinai Health System.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records vital signs.
• Collects and processes blood, urine, sputum, and stool specimens.
• Reports changes in patient parameters or unusual values to the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
• Provides assistance with procedures, such as stocking exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
• Assists in the collection of screening data, including personal data, chief complaints, past, present, family, and social history.
• Collects specimens for selected tests that assist with diagnosis and treatment: urine pregnancy tests, throat cultures, and hemocult.
• Participates in the follow-up of abnormal lab data as directed by the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
• Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control, including the use of protective gear.
• Assists with the procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Orients patients to ambulatory clinic policies and procedures.
• Transports patients and equipment as needed.
• Performs duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the RN/LPN within the framework of the New York State Nurse Practice Act and MSHS Policy and Procedures.
• Communicates in a clear, concise manner while handling all information in accordance with patient confidentiality regulations.
• Treats patients with empathy and impartiality, communicating courteously and positively with patients, family, and staff.
• Provides verbal reports to designated RNs and/or MDs and reports all problems to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Maintains competence in various tasks, skills, concepts, and functions.
• Attends JCAHO and mandatory in-service and educational programs within the department and hospital.
• Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
• Participates actively in unit-based interdisciplinary meetings.
• Participates in projects and programs carried out within the department.
• Adheres to The Mount Sinai Hospital dress code.
• Assists with the preparation and maintenance of medical records.
• Participates in the continuous quality improvement activities of the unit.
• Assists in the operational functioning of the unit by ensuring inventory needs of equipment and supplies.
• Locates resources and information for patients and family.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Preferred experience in a medical office or acute care setting.
• Certificate as Medical Office Assistant/Nursing Assistant preferred.
• BCLS certification required (Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross).

Pay

The salary range for this role is $28.1256 - $30.1672 per hour. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
