Medical Case Manager II

CorVel Corporation is seeking a caring, self-motivated, energetic, and independent registered nurse for a Medical Case Manager role in the NYC area. This position offers a work-from-home and on-the-road hybrid schedule with regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

About the Role

As a Medical Case Manager, you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of injured workers and their families. You will work collaboratively with patients, their families, medical providers, and other team members to facilitate recovery. This role involves heavy local travel, managing a caseload of workers' compensation injured workers within a defined jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and telephonic medical case management, involving the patient, physician, other healthcare providers, the employer, and the referral source.
• Utilize medical and nursing knowledge to discuss current and alternate treatment plans with physicians.
• Perform assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient progress.
• Evaluate the patient’s treatment plan for appropriateness, medical necessity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Attend doctors' appointments, home visits, and in some cases, attorney meetings.
• Participate in hospital and/or long-term facility discharge planning conferences to determine care appropriateness and develop long-term care strategies.
• Conduct home visits for initial evaluations.
• Implement care, such as negotiating the delivery of durable medical equipment and nursing services.
• Travel locally up to approximately 60% of the workweek/month, depending on the injured worker’s needs. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

• Current RN licensure in the state of operation.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Experience as an RN Medical Case Manager is ideal; a clinical background in orthopedics, neurology, or rehabilitation is preferred.
• Certification as a CCM, CIRS, or other case management certifications is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to assigned locations.

Skills

• Effective communication and multitasking skills in a high-volume, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to engage with patients, physicians, healthcare providers, attorneys, clients, and coworkers.
• Cost containment background (e.g., utilization review or managed care) is helpful.
• Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Pay

CorVel uses a market-based approach to pay, with salary ranges varying by location. The pay range for this role is $66,941 - $101,258. Factors considered include federal, state, and local minimum wage requirements, geographic location differential, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions. For leveled roles, new hires may be placed at a different level based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit, which may impact the salary range.

Schedule
