Medical Billing Specialist - A/R

Responsibilities

• Monitor, manage and fully work outstanding assigned insurance claims.
• Research and correct claims, write appeals, and facilitate submission to EHR (Athena).
• Contact payers as needed to resolve adverse decisions.
• Take action on each non-payment or zero pay claim, including contacting insurance companies.
• Provide necessary information to overturn denied claims, such as medical records and itemized statements.
• Maintain a system for timely follow-up on each outstanding account.
• Identify and document insurance payer issues, communicate with relevant team members, providers, and Manager.
• Issue patient and insurance refunds as needed.
• Assist Patient Services staff with patient inquiries regarding accounts or balances.
• Cover for other billing office employees as needed.
• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures and maintain compliance with governmental regulations.
• Maintain the privacy and security of protected health information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Provide superior customer service in a professional, compassionate, and friendly manner.

Requirements

• Minimum of High School Diploma.
• Previous medical accounts receivable experience.
• Previous customer service experience, preferably in a medical/healthcare setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and EHR software applications, preferably Athena.
• Workers compensation A/R experience preferred.
