Role Overview The Medical Biller and Coder Specialist participates in a grant-funded training program designed to prepare individuals for careers in medical billing and coding. The role involves learning healthcare insurance, coding, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance, with a focus on CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code sets. Participants will gain skills in claim form preparation, submission, follow-up, and denial management, aiming to achieve industry certifications (CPB, CPC). Responsibilities Provide accurate coding services adhering to payer and organizational guidelines.Abstract clinical data from medical records for billing.Review patient encounters for correct code assignment.Research and resolve denied claims and billing discrepancies.Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.Assist with billing, collections, and account receivable processes.Post payments, correct claim errors, and manage credit balances.Communicate with patients and stakeholders empathetically. Qualifications & Skills Must be 18+, with a high school diploma or GED.U.S. citizen or Green Card holder; familiarity with Microsoft Office beneficial.Familiarity with California billing and bilingual skills preferred but not required.Ability to pass a criminal background check. Program Details & Benefits Includes online classroom training and internship components.Requires a commitment of 40 hours/week during business hours.Provides a stipend of $31,200 and health reimbursement benefits.Prepares participants for industry-recognized certifications.Focuses on healthcare billing, coding, and revenue cycle management in diverse healthcare settings.
