Job Details
Under the general supervision of the Practice Director, this position assists Physicians, Advance Practice Professionals, and the practice team with direct and support-related patient care.
Responsibilities
- Treat patients in a respectful, confidential, and friendly manner.
- Prepare Provider for a successful appointment by communicating pertinent information.
- Performs phlebotomy, EKGs, rapid strep screens, flu swabs, INR tests, and other tests as ordered by the Provider.
- Aids in minor procedures like pap smears, suturing, dressing changes, catheterizations, and casting.
- Administers medications following the 5 R's of right med, right dose, right route, right patient, right time.
- Provides patients with educational materials and instructs them on medications, diet, exercise, and follow-up instructions.
- Communicates with patients regarding Prescription Drug Monitoring Program requirements and assists with compliance.
- Assists with robust checkout to identify potential barriers for care plan follow-through.
- Conducts nurse visits as requested by the Provider for tasks like hypertension screenings and diabetes follow-ups.
- Accepts and returns patient calls using appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Schedules appointments and processes orders for patients.
- Completes chart prep and performs pre-visit planning/chart preloading.
- Prepares examination rooms with supplies and instruments, ensuring a clean, professional, and welcoming environment.
- Greets patients, introduces themselves, and explains the rooming process.
- Drapes and positions patients, ensuring the Provider is on schedule.
- Cares for, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and orders medical supplies and medications.
- Processes referrals, pre-certifications, or pre-approvals as needed.
- Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record to complete best practice workflows accurately.
- Documents and updates the patient's medical history within the EMR guidelines.
- Completes the daily work list (order tracking, tasking, document import).
- Ensures compliance in all regulatory item collection.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program preferred.
- One to two years' experience in the medical field, or successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
