Medical Assistant, Urology - Full-Time, Days

About the role
The Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), or Physician, assisting with clinical and administrative tasks such as administering vaccines, conducting EKGs, recording vital signs, maintaining accurate patient records, and collaborating with the healthcare team to enhance patient care.
Responsibilities
- Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Center’s Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles.
- Perform duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of Nursing policies and procedures.
- Implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform tests (e.g., pregnancy tests, urinalysis, hemocults) specific to the patient population.
- Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy services and assist with collection of specimens.
- Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body.
- A current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Experience working in a community health setting.
- Completion of a certified/registered program for medical assistants recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants (CMA credential).
Preferred Qualifications
- Skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and organizing work.
- Ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system.
- Working knowledge of PC, Excel, Microsoft Word, OASIS, and EPIC.
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
- Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments.
Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week.
- Day shift: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
- 100% onsite at the DCAM - Hyde Park clinic (South Loop Clinic).
- No on-call shifts anticipated.
Pay
The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for the position, based on full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
