Medical Assistant Team Lead

Essential Functions

  • Render care to patients in the office setting as well as procedure setting under the supervision of the Site Manager
  • Cares for and maintains all capsule endoscopy equipment and accessories
  • Cleans and stocks clinical areas as well as procedure rooms
  • Assists provider during procedures (Hemorrhoidal Banding, Flex Sigmoidoscopy)
  • Serves as a key communication link between providers and patients to support smooth interactions
  • Takes patient to exam rooms and records weight, height, pulse and blood pressure of each patient
  • Reviews and documents patient’s current medication, dosage and dosage schedule on each visit
  • Lists patient’s medical allergies in EMR
  • Call patients with normal test results at providers request
  • Ensures patient confidentiality at all times
  • Chart Prep - obtains diagnostic studies (labs, x-rays, path report, etc.) in situations when medical records is unable to
  • Provides instruction and information to patients as per provider’s orders recorded on Medical Record to include, but not limited to:
    • Provides educational instructional materials to patient
    • Provides and reviews special diets
    • Completes lab requests to include any specific instructions for the test
    • Instructs patient on collection of stool studies and providing appropriate containers.
    • Dispenses sample medications as ordered by provider
  • Has working knowledge of insurance criteria as it pertains to where patient is required to have labs, x-rays and other procedures performed
  • Knows provider preferences and implements same
  • Restocks nurses station with drugs, diets, instructions, educational materials as needed
  • Restocks patient exam rooms as needed
  • Properly disposes of contaminated waste following Universal Precautions and OSHA regulations
  • Documents all aspects of patient care according to the policies of the USDH (recalls, orders)
  • Track procedure and pathology reports and forward to provider
  • Performs follow-up calls to patients as assigned with questions or concerns
  • Performs FibroScans and document properly
  • Orders supplies for patient care area and infusion
  • Assigns daily assignments for rooming providers, lunch and conversions
  • Create monthly staff schedule for FibroScan, Interpreting and patient care

Supervisory Responsibility

This role assists the Site Manager with supervising day-to-day functions.

Work Environment

  • Clean environment in a gastroenterology physicians’ office
  • Exposure to communicable diseases
  • Exposure to chemicals common to a clinical setting (formaldehyde, bleach)

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Extensive periods of standing or walking
  • Bending, lifting, and carrying
  • Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity and hearing to normal range
  • Involvement with management, providers, staff, and patients and their families

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, with an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday. No weekends are required.

Education and Experience

  • Medical Assistant Certification and/or Associates Degree in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Minimum of two (2) years previous office experience preferred
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in gastroenterology nursing
  • Current BLS certification
  • Participation in ongoing continuing education
  • Ability to deal compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients, their families, providers, and fellow staff
  • Good Communication skills
