Job Details
Under the general supervision of the Practice Director, this position assists Physicians, Advance Practice Professionals, and the practice team with direct and support-related patient care. Duties include treating patients respectfully, confidentially, and friendlily; completing clinical documents; performing tests; assisting in minor procedures; preparing medications; providing patient education; and assisting with compliance for Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs.
- Treats patients respectfully, confidentially, and friendlily
- Completes clinical documents
- Performs phlebotomy, EKGs, rapid strep screens, flu swabs, INRs, pregnancy tests, and other tests as directed
- Aids in minor procedures such as pap smears, suturing, dressing changes, catheterizations, and casting
- Administers medications following the 5 R's of right med, right dose, right route, right patient, right time
- Provides patient education on medications, diet, exercise, and follow-up instructions
- Communicates with patients about Prescription Drug Monitoring Program requirements and contract contents
- Assists with robust checkout to identify potential barriers to care plan follow-through
- Conducts nurse visits as requested by Providers for needs like hypertension screenings, INR checks, diabetes follow-ups, etc.
- Accepts and returns patient calls using appropriate telephone etiquette
- Schedules appointments and processes orders for patients
- Completes chart prep and pre-visit planning/chart preloading
- Prepares examination rooms with supplies and instruments, ensuring a clean, professional, and welcoming environment
- Greets patients professionally, escorts them to exam rooms, introduces themselves, and explains the rooming process
- Positions and drapes patients, ensuring the Provider is on schedule
- Documents and prepares specimens for processing
- Orders medical supplies and medication/immunizations as needed
- Calls orders to pharmacies for medications under Provider direction and supervision
- Ensures vaccines are handled and administered according to standards and reports adverse events
- Completes and processes referrals, pre-certifications, or pre-approvals as needed
- Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record to complete documented Best Practice Workflows accurately
- Documents and updates patient's medical history within EMR guidelines
- Completes the daily work list (order tracking, tasking, document import)
- Ensures compliance with regulatory item collection
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program (preferred)
- One to two years' experience in the medical field (or successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
