ROLE OVERVIEW And PURPOSE The Medical Assistant will support various providers, advanced providers, and registered nurses to provide excellent patient-centered care and services within a dynamic team environment. This role will communicate with patients and perform clinical services to ensure high quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, this role will collaborate with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team to offer transitional primary care services to homeless individuals living in their natural environment (i.e. the street). Responsibilities Direct Patient Care: Communicates and performs clinical care services with patientsTakes patient vital signs, medical history, and obtains patient intake informationPerforms clinical procedures such as blood draws, vaccines, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, and EKGsAssists in medical services, office procedures, and a variety of hands-on patient care tasks and relays all appropriate health information to necessary personnelDiscusses patient needs and provides education and resources to patients directlyEnsures exam rooms and mobile medicine vehicle are stocked, cleaned, and set up for examinations and proceduresConducts follow-ups with patients via phone calls, encampment visits, and visits to other settings patients are locatedProvides patient care in a manner that is trauma-informed, non-discriminatory, non-judgmental, and compliant with policies and procedures Provider And Team Support: Coordinates provider workflows to ensure efficient patient careEnsures provider has all pertinent information required for each patient visit including diagnostic images, labs, medication reconciliation, and required screeningsAssists other providers and care teams in women’s health, pediatrics and general medicine departments as needed Clinical Administration: Utilizes electronic health records to order, process and document clinical treatment plans for patient as directed by the providerConveys information to patients via telephone or email under the direction of a provider or Registered NurseAct as patient advocate and liaison between the patient and community-based organizations to ensures that patient needs are met with rights maintainedConsults and collaborates with community providers to ensure continuity of careSchedules patient appointments and encounter patients using EMR Registration programsProvides patient with requested documents after review to ensure forms are complete, accurate and executed by the providerCompletes ongoing/annual training for position compliance Education/Experience High school diploma or GED requiredValid medical assistant certificate from an accredited program requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment. These courses must follow AHA guidelines but may be completed through approved online providers such as ProMed or other equivalent programs that meet recognized BLS standards. Two years’ medical assistant experience requiredExperience with venipuncture/specimen collection and immunization administration based on provider orders requiredExperience working with unsheltered homeless and/or personal lived homelessness experience preferredBilingual English/Spanish, English/Farsi, or English/Arabic preferred ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities) Knowledgeable about and experience with medical procedures and terminologyAbility to document accurate information in the electronic health records systemAbility to perform intermediate computer and data entry skillsAbility to make decisions and sound judgements to anticipate the needs of patents and knowing when to consult with the team, supervisors, and expertsAbility to apply emotional and cultural intelligence to provide appropriate communication and patient careAbility to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including changing priorities and time sensitive deadlinesAbility to work as part of a team as well as independentlyAbility to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner Physical Requirements Ability to lift/carry 20lbs/weightAbility to stand for long periods of time Neighborhood Healthcare offers a generous benefit plan that includes: Partially company paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans. Pay Range: $24.95 to $34.93per hour, depending on experience. Compensation Disclosure: The posted salary range reflects the designated pay grade for this position. While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, Budgetary considerations and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
