About the Role
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the Nurse Manager and clinic doctors, assists physicians with patient care and administrative duties. Responsibilities include maintaining exam room equipment, sanitizing spaces, performing administrative tasks, and monitoring patient vital signs.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients professionally in person and on the phone.
- Schedule patient appointments, cancellations, and update records.
- Verify patient identity and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, weight, heart rate).
- Enter patient information into a database and maintain required records.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of exam rooms and equipment.
- Check and order inventory supplies; maintain office equipment.
- Prepare correspondence and documentation.
- Assist with clinical duties and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and work as part of a medical team.
- Escalate issues to supervisors and assist with higher-level problems.
- Participate in administrative staff meetings and other professional obligations.
- Assist in evaluating department reports and recommend improvements.
- Take ownership of special projects and follow through with action plans.
- Actively participate in problem resolution and coordinate between parties.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
- Adhere to corporate, department, and HR policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a certification program from an accredited medical assistant program.
- Experience in a medical setting preferred but not required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification.
- General computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
- Technological proficiency for data tracking and interpretation.
Physical Requirements
- Visual and auditory acuity for communication with employees and patients.
- Ability to use office equipment (PC, copier, fax, multi-line telephone).
- Occasional light lifting (up to 20 pounds) and minimal offsite travel.
- Exposure to general indoor working conditions.
