Medical Assistant - Sierra Rose Primary Care
About the role
The Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that any patient questions or concerns have been addressed by the appropriate provider. This position may float to various sites within the health system.
Responsibilities
- Escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly
- Taking vital signs as per guidelines
- Maintaining examination rooms' stock
- Documenting all patient communications
- Preparing lab specimens for processing
- Completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same
- Scheduling patients for tests
- Placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record
- Administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies
Requirements
- Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399)
- AHA BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
- One of the following certifications preferred: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), State of Nevada EMT certification
- Computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Qualifications
- Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English
- Multi-physician office practice experience highly preferred
- CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA, EMT 1 or completion of an Externship (with leadership approval) preferred
Skills
Knowledge of orthopedic bracing and casting related activities, including application, medication, repair and fitting with a wide variety of casts, splints, and braces to all areas of the body. Ability to fit casts, splints and braces to ensure maximum comfort and avoid unnecessary pressures. Ability to trim, split, remove casts as required. Ability to adjust braces to physician specification. Ability to document and patient education related to cast, splints or braces. Ability to provide cast care and brace instructions. Ability to fit and instruct on crutches and other mobilization aids. Ability to prepare, stock and clean exam rooms per MA requirements. Ability to initiate reorder of supplies as needed. Ability to maintain tools and equipment. Ability to setup fluoroscopy machine for care provider use. Ability to contact vendors about brace orders. Ability to coordinate with patients to assist in completing workups. Ability to complete forms prior to physician review. Ability to assist in Operating Room, Inpatient units and Emergency room. Ability to assist physician with application of splints, casts and braces as needed. Ability to modify or split casts as needed. Ability to instruct patients on cast care, brace/splint application and care.
