Medical Assistant Senior South Campus

About the Role

We are a multi-specialty pediatric clinic providing care across a variety of specialty services. In this role, the Medical Assistant will support multiple specialty clinics and play an important part in delivering excellent patient care. Location: South Campus (Highlands Ranch)
FTE: 0.90 (36 hours/week) – eligible for benefits
Shift: Monday - Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. No holiday requirement.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Performs and supports patient reception including check-in and check-out, registration, scheduling, and coordinating patient follow-up visits.
• Creates moderately complex patient correspondence (e.g., completes medication administration permission forms, refill request routing).
• Participates in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management; may synthesize or compile data from multiple areas of the medical record to complete forms.
• Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
• Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
• Completes daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance (e.g., daily charge report, compliance with logs and checks).
• Serves as the preceptor for new staff including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment, and monitoring progress.
• Ensures supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Participates in hospital committees as directed by leadership.
• Serves as a mentor, expert in clinical area/skill, a safety coach/specialist, and assists in reviewing and assessing peers’ skill sets.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
• Reports areas of concern to the next care provider.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
• Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
• Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies.
• Anticipates and leads in balancing workloads and MA assignments to maintain patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic team.
• Provides phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing (e.g., centrifuge, Meditech) when indicated.
• Completes lab test follow-up and medical record documentation.
• Prepares and completes medical records for visits by recording patient information, treatment, and test results.
• Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
• Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by the provider.
• Cross-trains to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office (where applicable).

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• One (1) year of experience in healthcare (may substitute for Medical Assistant graduation).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers / CPR certification.
• Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.

Equivalency: Two years of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.

Pay

Hourly Range: $19.18 to $28.77, dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
