- 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management (preferred)
- Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months and hold the CMA certificate (in lieu of experience)
- Pass MA competency exam within 6 months of employment
- Active Medical Assistant certification (RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA) with proof of current membership
- Certification or additional training must meet meaningful use requirements
- BLS certification required
- High school diploma/GED, and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations
- Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic (preferred)
- Facilitates communication between patient and provider
- Collects and shares pertinent information with provider
- Acts on provider directives
- Prepares patient for visit with provider
- Rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR
- Completes tasks associated with company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
- Maintains exam room standards
- Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day
- Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day
- Maintains biohazard and sharps containers
- Affixes patient prescriptions and completes medical and patient forms
- Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR
- Prepares electronic patient charts for clinic visits before the date of service
- Verifies any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirms patient appropriateness to provider, notes imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service
- Scans clinical documents into EMR
- Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service
- Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider
- Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner
- Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
- Maintains a positive patient experience
- Maintains HIPAA compliant environment
- Maintains clean workspace
