About the role

This position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the physician. The Medical Assistant assists the physician with patient care in compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code. Responsibilities include routine clinical and administrative duties to meet the needs of the practice, varying by office size and specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing the patient for the visit and providing services as determined by providers within licensure, policy, and scope of practice.
  • Completes Care Connect EMR documentation and performs administrative duties to ensure all information is current and updated, including maintenance and monitoring of the EMR in-basket.
  • Maintains and cleans the environment, work area, and equipment; reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates with patients and customers respectfully and collaboratively anticipates the needs of the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Collects and monitors patient data; reports patient data and needs as directed.
  • Maintains documentation guidelines for patient chargeable items/services.
  • Ensures processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency; engages in process and quality improvement activities.
  • Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and implement new services.
  • Engages in continuous study of the professional field, including best practices, to maintain competence and skills.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
  • Promotes and advocates for patient quality, safety, and experience initiatives; acts as a role model.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in areas such as quality, performance improvement, and EMR (e.g., EPIC Super User).
  • Oversees efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing patients for visits and providing education as determined by providers.
  • Leads and supports the development of standard work and necessary customizations.
  • Functions as a clinical preceptor and trains new staff.
  • Complies with scope of practice and operates with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • One of the following:
    • Completion of a Medical Assistant Career Tech Program.
    • Completion of a School of Medical Assisting.
    • Military Medic Training.
    • Paramedic (EMT-P) Training.
