About the role

Welcome to Cherry Health - video about Cherry Health. This is a part-time, benefit-eligible, 24-hour-per-week position working on-site at our Neighborhood Wellness Center: 1001 33rd St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Schedule: Monday & Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Tuesday: 8 am - 1:00 pm - float to other Cherry Health site, Thursday: 1:00 pm – 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health screenings: Lipid panel, Blood pressure, Diabetes/A1C and fasting glucose, BMI, height, and weight, COVID home tests.
  • Use iPad voice translation if needed.
  • Educate patients on screening results.
  • Collaborate with a Community Health Worker (CHW) from Wayne State to connect patients with community resources.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, organization, and patient flow.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program and/or attainment of one of the following certifications: CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants, RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification through American Medical Technologists, CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) certification through National Healthcareer Association, NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant) certification through National Center for Competency Testing, ARMA (Advanced Registered Medical Assistant) certification through the American Registry of Medical Assistants, NRCMA (National Registered Certified Medical Assistant) certification through the National Association for Health Professionals.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR certification.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of previous medical assisting experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.

Skills

  • Basic Life Support/CPR certification.
  • Ability to perform routine healthcare tasks, enter data, and generate reports in the EHR.
  • Ability to effectively coach, train, and mentor others.
  • Ability to work sensitively with patients undergoing treatment in stressful situations.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively with both professional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
  • Basic typing skills and proficiency with computer software systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to patients/clients with illnesses and/or infections.
  • Frequent telephone and computer use, requiring manual dexterity for writing and computer use.
  • Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May require bending, squatting, or kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
