Medical Assistant - Ortho/Sports Medicine - Full Time(40Hrs)/Days - Farmington Hills

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide a range of administrative and clinical support services under the supervision of healthcare providers and nursing leadership.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Escort patients to rooms and prepare them for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Obtain and record vital signs and patient histories.
• Prepare for, set up, and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Administer and document oral, parenteral medications and immunizations.
• Document care provided in the electronic health record.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies.
• Monitor and respond to patient requests via various means.
• Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the electronic health record.
• Discharge patients with after-visit instructions.
• Prepare medication refills and request provider signatures.
• Schedule and coordinate appointments and procedures.
• Apply third-party and managed care policies.
• Obtain insurance pre-authorizations.
• Enter referrals for provider sign-off.
• Participate in quality assurance programs.
• Practice standard precautions and maintain a clean environment.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
• Function as a health care advocate and inform patients about office policies.
• Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
• Ability to perform a variety of clinical skills preferred.
• Problem-solving ability preferred.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
• Epic (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a formal clinical externship (160 hours minimum).
• Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without an externship but with one year of clinical experience.
• Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with one year of experience.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with one year of clinical experience.
• Military-trained medical personnel with one year of clinical experience.
• Successfully complete all components of Ambulatory orientation.
• Current BLS-C upon hire or within the first month of employment.
