Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a medical provider—physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner—in the medical office setting. The Medical Assistant works closely with the physician, assists with direct patient care, and serves as the clinical liaison between the physician, patient, and office staff. This role promotes communication among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan defined by the attending physician. The incumbent attends to patients utilizing age-appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages according to the practice specialty.
Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
- Taking patients to rooms
- Obtaining vital signs
- Assisting with medical procedures
- Performing phlebotomy
- Obtaining lab specimens
- Calculating and administering medications and vaccinations
- Completing disability and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork
Administrative Functions
- Greeting patients
- Scheduling appointments
- Answering phones
- Clerical and computer work
- Prior authorizations
- Adhering to safety and infection guidelines
- Billing and coding
- Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
- Faxing
Training Program
No experience? Norton Healthcare offers a full-time, 40 hours a week paid training program. Training consists of classroom and clinical training, with the schedule Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Classroom training is held at 1001 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY 40207, while clinical training occurs at various locations throughout Louisville and Southern Indiana. Upon successful completion, you will transition into a full-time Medical Assistant role.

Requirements
For Medical Assistant Role
- Graduate of a medical assistant program or
- One year as a Medical Assistant
For Medical Assistant Trainee Role
- High School Diploma
- No experience required (comprehensive on-the-job training provided)
