About the Role

This role may function as either a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse, performing common technical tasks and procedures under the direction of a provider or nurse.
Responsibilities
- Perform common technical tasks or procedures that do not require the professional judgment of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
- Administer medications via approved routes (oral, sublingual, buccal, ophthalmic, otic, nasal, inhalant, transdermal, vaginal, rectal, topical, intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular) following validation of competency and with a documented provider order. Dosage calculations for medications must be verified by a physician, independent licensed practitioner, or nurse prior to administration. High-risk medications, such as insulin, require verification by a nurse prior to administration.
- Collect blood and bodily fluids for laboratory processing.
- Perform laboratory waived testing, such as bedside finger stick glucose.
- Perform office procedures and general administrative duties.
Requirements
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or obtained within three months of hire.
- If driving is required, a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as required by hospital liability carrier.
Preferred Qualifications
- CNA certification.
- Phlebotomy training or certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year’s experience in a medical assistant field or equivalent healthcare experience.
- Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- One year of Medical/Surgical Nursing or equivalent experience.
- One year of experience in a Physician Practice office.
- Working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid guidelines and regulations related to a Physician’s Office Practice.
