Medical Assistant, OBGYN - Full-Time, Days
About the role
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Chicago Medical Center offers personalized care for patients seeking comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic services. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity within the Hyde Park clinic.
Responsibilities
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with patient needs, and charting.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities, such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, billing and coding for insurance, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting co-pays.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities, including setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment, cleaning sterilizers, and managing supplies.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities, such as respecting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and reporting issues to supervisors.
- Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities, including performing medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving, checking vital signs, preparing for exams, administering medications, and performing laboratory procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Phlebotomy training; Phlebotomist license and work experience, if required by practice
- Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility
- Able to partner with teams in small to large practice groups
- Certified Medical Assistant
Qualifications
- Considerable skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and organizing work
- Ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system
- General working knowledge of PC: Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, and EPIC
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience
- Significant skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy
Skills
Medical assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory and perform other duties assigned.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.

Schedule
Full-time, 1.0 FTE, Day shift, 4/10-hour shifts, 8:30am-6:30pm, with Thursdays off. Generally works approximately 40 hours per week, with the days of the week being Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, with Thursdays off. Onsite at the Hyde Park campus.
