Learn About a Day in the Life of a Medical Assistant
- Greeting patients and escorting them to exam rooms
- Taking patients’ vital signs and other medical information
- Performing administrative tasks such as entering, maintaining, and reporting medical history, medical coding, and filing claims using an EMR
- Preparing and sterilizing medical instruments
- Maintaining exam rooms and ensuring patient privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene
- Assisting with inventory management and stock replenishment
- Passing along patient information for prescriptions, x-rays, or lab requisitions to necessary parties
Job Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge
- BLS certification within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care
Preferred Job Requirements
- An associate’s degree
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program or two years of MA experience
- A current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
