Medical Assistant/MA - Specialty Clinic (General Surgery, Weight Management, Breast Center)

About the role

This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week pay period), benefits-eligible position located in Maplewood, MN. Clinic hours are Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM–6:00 PM and Friday: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, with no weekend shifts. The position is eligible for up to a $2,000 new hire sign-on bonus.

As a member of the care team, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient- and family-centered care by performing a variety of high-level functions to assist the healthcare team and patients. Responsibilities include gathering and documenting patient information, adhering to policies and procedures, promoting teamwork, and continually improving processes and workflow.

Responsibilities

• Delivers care as delegated by the physician, authorized practitioner, or RN to assigned patients, following the patient’s plan of care.
• Prioritizes work based on patient acuity, available resources, patient/family preferences, and provider schedule in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Performs high- and low-risk technical procedures, including medication administration, assistance with CPR, procedures, and lab draws.
• Recognizes and adapts approaches based on age or cultural differences.
• Implements assigned aspects of the patient teaching plan and documents care in the medical record.
• Communicates compliance, concerns, and continuity of care to the delegating physician, authorized practitioner, or RN.
• Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
• Responds appropriately to emergent situations and functions as a care team assistant as needed.
• Communicates effectively with other healthcare team members, ensuring clear, concise, accurate, and timely information sharing.
• Respects and ensures confidentiality of patient, staff, and organizational information.
• Adjusts care approaches to reflect the developmental level of the population served.
• Partners with patients and caregivers in care and decision-making, communicating in a respectful manner.
• Ensures a safe, secure environment and individualizes the plan of care to meet patient needs.
• Modifies clinical interventions based on the population served and provides patient education based on assessed learning needs.
• Identifies opportunities for workflow improvement and participates in meetings to support initiatives.
• Engages in change to improve the work environment and patient experience.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or graduate of an LPN program.
• A clinical externship is required for non-certified Medical Assistant applicants with less than six (6) months of experience.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or MTN).

Preferred Qualifications

• Ambulatory care experience.
• AAMA certification.

Pay

Compensation is based on skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Pay equity and internal team equity are prioritized. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, the sign-on bonus program in place at the time of offer will be honored.
