Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vitals, assist with procedures, and update patient electronic medical records accurately and timely.
  • Provide additional support to office/administrative staff: answer phones, check in patients, schedule appointments, follow up with referrals, order supplies, stock rooms.
  • Prepare patients for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary measurements; document chief complaint and pain scores.
  • Report condition changes to the clinician.
  • Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including blood pressure, respiration, heart rate/pulse, temperature, phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs.
  • Act as chaperon as needed; use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process and coordinate patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling.
  • Communicate test results to patients and act as a resource to clinicians for optimal patient care.
  • Administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide clerical support: complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records, and previous care documentation.
  • Provide complete and accurate information for billing related to the patient encounter in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a clean, functional environment: clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; follow sterilization procedures and OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform basic maintenance of equipment and coordinate repairs; order and stock supplies.
  • Handle medication ordering tasks: expired medications/equipment recalls.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers; exemplify service orientation and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required (RMA, CMA, CCMA, or NCMA).
  • BLS certification required.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
  • At least one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.

Schedule

Full time (40 hours/week), day shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 A–4:30 P.
