Schedule
- 3 × 12-hour shifts with weekend rotation
Pay
Pay range: $24.10 – $36.15 per hour
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
- Assist the department leader to support daily workflow and operations for maximum efficiency and productivity (e.g., developing and modifying staffing schedules, medication/supply ordering, audits).
- Assist with training and onboarding and act as a resource for the team.
- Serve as a role champion or on a committee to support quality, safety, teammate engagement, patient experience, and general process improvement initiatives.
- Perform rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
- Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered.
- Perform lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Perform Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order.
- Complete Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
- Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintain a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensure equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and assess data reflective of the patient’s status to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training that is clinical in nature (per DD214) in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
- Recognized or certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- National Health Career Association (NHA)
- National Healthcare Worker’s Association (NHCWA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA)
- Successful completion of system-approved program to become a primary trainer for new teammates.
- Four years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant, with a minimum of two years as a certified or registered Medical Assistant.
Skills
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members, and physicians.
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
- Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member when available.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
