Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, such as checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting with patient care activities, charting, phone triage, medication administration, and relaying instructions.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, patient check-in and check-out, verifying insurance coverage, and managing and updating charts.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, such as respecting/promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and sharing problems with supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or college course in medical assisting.
  • Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.
  • Requirements: Intermediate experience (4+ years experience) and/or acting more independently, takes on additional duties to assist the office, strong and consistent performer, knowledge of health care field and EMR systems, skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately, skill in written and verbal communications, ability to understand patient education needs, ability to learn and retain patient care practices and procedures, ability to project a pleasant and professional image, ability to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks, ability to multi-task, ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
