Pod Primary MA Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and initiate medical visits in a welcoming and supportive manner.
  • Review patient charts and prepare vaccine reports for daily morning huddles.
  • Work with others in the pod to ensure patients are roomed and discharged efficiently.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits.
  • Conduct initial interviews and record results accurately and promptly in the EHR.
  • Obtain and record vitals such as pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Perform developmentally appropriate blood tests, EKGs, visual acuity, urine, and hearing tests.
  • Collect member specimens for testing.
  • Update patient information as needed.
  • Provide patient care by administering injections and medications based on approved standing-orders.
  • Document all results, interventions, treatments, and medications fully and appropriately in the patient’s chart.
  • Update immunization records in all appropriate databases before visit completion.
  • Absorb and document any additional tasks as directed.

Pod Care and Case Coordination Responsibilities

  • Anticipate and procure relevant documents and data for providers, especially consultation reports from specialists.
  • Review providers’ schedules and work proactively to keep the care team on track.
  • Assist providers with follow-up tasks, such as outreach to patients, calling labs for results, etc.
  • Support with panel management and group visits as needed.
  • Coordinate subspecialty referrals in collaboration with the Referral Coordinator.
  • Support patient outreach, follow-up, and appointment scheduling when needed.
  • Support program staff in managing forms for pod providers' signature/attention.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Closely monitor the lab and assess for supply needs according to departmental protocol.
  • Actively cover MA roles across SBHC sites when needed and as requested.
  • Participate in internal quality improvement teams and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate understanding and apply safety policies to ensure safe patient practices.
  • Safely perform duties and follow protective protocols to ensure personal and others' safety.
  • Support with transportation of clinical inventory supplies when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for lead MA duties at designated sites, including VFC tracking and documentation, supply management, equipment QA, patient education documents, lab organization and cleanliness.
  • Represent the SBHC department and/or Medical Assistants at internal and external meetings, as requested.
  • Train and coach incoming and incumbent Medical Assistants on various topics and flows that improve clinical care.
  • Fulfill the role of Vaccine Coordinator for the assigned sites, involving maintaining inventories, ordering vaccines, vaccine transportation, and tracking vaccine usage.
  • Maintain inventories of site medications and supplies and submit orders as needed.
  • Review and provide input into protocols, policies, and procedures as requested.
  • Ensure medical equipment is calibrated and functioning properly at all times according to periodicity schedule.
  • Proactively contact vendors to ensure equipment is properly functioning and maintained.
