Job Description
Supports providers and nursing staff in delivering timely, quality patient health care services. Duties include assisting with rooming patients, managing patient flow, administering medication, and communicating with patients. Specific responsibilities include:
- Rooms patients, manages patient flow, and obtains adequate patient medical information/data
- Collections and confirms patient information via interview, questionnaires, vital signs, and accurately documents in EMR according to documentation standards
- Aids patients in preparing for physician exams, providing psycho-emotional support
- Collects and processes specimens, facilitates lab/imaging results
- Communicates with electronic medical records, responds to messages as delegated
- May assist with front desk duties and patient registration/scheduling
- Performs patient care tasks as delegated by provider or RN
- Administers injections, assists with procedures, supports patient care, reinforces information about tests, labs, and treatment plans
- Coordinates test results with provider or RN, prepares refill information for provider to review and prescribe, assists with patient transportation
- Contributes to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees, reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions
- Uses equipment following policies, procedures, and manufacturer directions, follows safety principles in all interactions
- Cleans, stocks, maintains inventory for exam, medication, and supply rooms, reports acute problems and changes in patient condition
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Completed a Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare education program with clinical training
- Candidates with less than six months of Medical Assistant experience must have completed a minimum of 160 hours of clinical externship or equivalent clinical practicum
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous Medical Assistant experience
- Medical Terminology Licenses/Certifications
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Allina in-house training within 30 days of hire
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA - AAMA, RMA - AMT, CCMA - NHA, NCMA - NCCT, CMAA - NHA)
Physical Demands
Medium Work: Lifting up to 32 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently
Pay Range
$22.04 to $30.01 per hour
