Medical Assistant - Gap Year Pre Med Pre PA

Job Summary

Tareen Dermatology is seeking exceptional Pre-Med and Pre-PA students for the position of Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant will work in a fast-paced and hands-on environment, performing routine administrative and clinical tasks to support the offices of physicians and other health practitioners. Training and mentorship will be provided on-site, and students will have the opportunity to apply for medical or PA school.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room.
• Accompanies provider into the patient examination room to transcribe a history and physical exam, and documents accurately the provider’s encounter with the patient.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
• Acts as liaison between doctors and support staff; mediating issues and problems as necessary.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
• Makes sure exam rooms are monitored, cleaned, and stocked.
• Accurately and thoroughly documents medical visits and procedures as they are being performed at the direction of the provider.
• Sends out and reviews pathology reports with patients.
• Answers and returns telephone calls in a timely manner.
• Follows HIPAA and OSHA policies.
• Travels to alternate satellite clinics as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
• Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
• Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in science-based program required.
• Previous medical field experience preferred.
