Medical Assistant - Float

About the Role

The Medical Assistant (MA)-Float Pool position is a float role where the MA will be assigned to various BCM clinics and locations. This role requires flexibility, eagerness to learn, excellent communication and customer service skills, strong work ethics, and a passion for helping others. The ideal candidate is proficient in EMR systems (preferably EPIC), comfortable standing and moving for long periods, and adaptable to different clinic environments.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collecting specimens, performing EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
• Collects patient health history, performs medication reconciliation, and enters information in EPIC.
• Administers injections and medications as directed by medical providers.
• Notes the chief complaint or reason for the patient's visit.
• Prepares equipment, examination rooms, and cleans instruments as directed.
• Assists with medical procedures and exams as needed.
• Instructs patients on general care and medicine procedures.
• Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
• Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
• Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post-visit follow-ups.
• Uses Ring Central-Live Answer to handle clinical calls (department-specific).
• Responds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages, routing them to RNs, ACPs, or physicians as needed.
• Performs clerical and administrative tasks such as filing/scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
• Takes inventory of clinic supplies and orders supplies as needed.
• Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates flexibility, dependability, and adaptability in a float pool position.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
• Two or more years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
• Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association.
