About the role

The Medical Assistant Float is responsible for assisting Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants in delivering expert dermatology medical care to patients. This role involves direct patient interaction, including greeting patients, collecting intake information, performing point-of-care testing, scribing in the electronic medical record system, and assisting with surgical procedures. The position may require floating between any Waccamaw Dermatology location with advanced or last-minute notice, including Myrtle Beach, Conway, Pawleys Island, Dillon, Sumter, Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, or Wilmington.

Responsibilities

  • Assists during dermatological procedures and surgeries, including setting up and sterilizing instruments and completing documentation logs.
  • Assists the Provider with minor surgeries such as skin cancer, cysts, and lipomas.
  • Performs intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, including numbing injections.
  • Maintains knowledge of medical terminology, especially as it pertains to dermatology.
  • Responds professionally to patient Klara messages, electronic faxes, and phone inquiries.
  • Greets patients, records medical histories, and takes vital signs.
  • Helps room patients and prepares them for examinations and procedures.
  • Communicates aftercare follow-up instructions to patients.
  • Performs in-room scribing with the medical provider and ensures accuracy in charting.
  • Assists with ordering and inventory of medical supplies.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Provides superior customer service and remains flexible to support the team.
  • Works both independently and within a team environment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant experience or equivalent in a high-volume medical setting, with the ability to read, write, and interpret medical terminology (dermatology experience a plus).
  • Completion of a technical/vocational training school program with CMA, AAMA, RMA, or CCMA certification, or Emergency Medical Technician certification (preferred).
  • Previous experience scribing in the room for the Provider.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, or BLS certification.
  • Ability to speak other languages is a plus.
  • Must be able to move between locations, push, pull, reach, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work 8-10+ hour shifts and be available for overtime when necessary.
  • Must speak and write English fluently.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • On-site presence required; must have reliable transportation.

Schedule

Hours are TBD based on department needs between 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday (5 days a week), or Monday–Thursday/Tuesday–Friday.
