Medical Assistant - Family and Internal Medicine
Starting wage: $18.41/hour for non-certified Medical Assistants, $19.43/hour for Medical Assistants certified through AAMA or AMT. Eligible new hires receive a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
About the role
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, you will provide excellent patient care by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. This includes taking vital signs, assisting with procedures, administering injections, and performing venipuncture. You will also assist with clerical duties to maintain efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform to service excellence standards: respond promptly, professionally, and courteously to all customers’ needs.
- Cooperate and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Prepare examining rooms, including turning on computer terminals and stocking supplies.
- Organize forms for physicals and other needs.
- Work collaboratively with providers to assist in patient care:
- Collect patient history.
- Prepare patients and necessary equipment/supplies for visits.
- Document interventions, patient/family responses, medications, and vital signs in patient charts or computer systems.
- Administer EKGs, PFTs, immunizations, medications, and draw blood as directed.
- Obtain approval for and phone in prescriptions as directed.
- Complete lab slips and referral forms.
- Assist with routine procedures for gynecological exams, physicals, and office visits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
- Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Tech.
- Completion of a medical assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse assistant, licensed practical nurse, armed services medic, or patient care technician program.
- For clinics with Rural Health Designation: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalents is required within 6 months of hire.
- For float positions: Travel to or between clinics is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Electronic medical record experience.
- One year of experience working in a medical office with multiple providers.
- Previous experience in a medical office of the same specialty.
Pay
$18.41/hour for non-certified Medical Assistants, $19.43/hour for Medical Assistants certified through AAMA or AMT. $2,000 sign-on bonus for eligible new hires.
Schedule
- Full-time: 80 hours per pay period.
- Daily work times: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
- No on-call requirement.
- No weekends.
