Job Summary and Responsibilities
- Proactively prepares patient charts and ensures all information is obtained and up‑to‑date for multiple patients daily, depending on the number of physicians on‑site.
- Greets and prepares patients for practitioner visits; obtains and records vital signs and other appropriate information such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, and presenting problems; positions, drapes, and cleans up after examinations under provider supervision; provides patient mobility assistance as necessary.
- Performs basic lab and phlebotomy procedures, draws blood, conducts EKGs and other laboratory procedures, administers approved medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intradermal routes, informs patients of lab results, and mails reports to patients under provider supervision.
- Documents medical visits and procedures performed by healthcare providers in the electronic medical record in accordance with established procedures.
- Reviews medical documentation to validate information, identify inconsistencies or errors, and facilitate overall accuracy of the medical record according to established requirements.
- Prepares, cleans, and sterilizes instruments; disposes of contaminated items per standards; keeps exam rooms clean, orderly, and well‑stocked; maintains adequate inventory of supplies; anticipates providers’ needs for medications, supplies, and equipment and plans accordingly.
- Schedules appointments including office visits, ultrasounds, non‑stress tests, and processes/authorizes referrals to other medical care providers, clinics, and facilities as instructed; collaborates with other CHI‑FH departments to schedule appointments for mutual clients.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED (General Studies).
- Completion of a Medical Assistant certification program at an accredited institution or validation of equivalent military training (e.g., Hospital Corpsman) demonstrating the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Medical Assistant Certification for Washington State.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – preferred.
- At least one year of work experience as a Medical Assistant.
