About the Role

Performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory care setting within the Dermatology department.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Works collaboratively with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Documents treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • Acts as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultation, providing patients with scheduling information.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider.
  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellence standards.
  • Consistently demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Assists the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Indicator activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices efficient use of supplies.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting.
  • Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • If hired after January 1, 2015, maintains current certification by one of the following agencies within 6 months of hire:
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Health career Association (NHA)
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
    • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
