Principal Responsibilities
- Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel.
- Collections and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurement.
- Administers immunizations and medications per provider's order.
- Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placements, documents the measurement of the PPD skin test.
- Applies and removes bandages and dressings.
- Provides fluoride varnish treatment to patients ages 1 month to 20 years.
- Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
- Provides basic health information and education to patients.
- Prepares examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking necessary supplies.
- Accurately documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Aids in patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Coordicates referrals to specialists and diagnostic testing as needed.
- Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean environment.
- Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and verifying insurance information.
- Accurately files patients’ lab results, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents.
- Participates in staff meetings, including quality improvement sessions, case conferences, and in-service training.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Completes required screening tools.
- Log in to Cozeva. Review what the patient is due for, regarding HEDIS measures.
- Check daily Rusetta tank.
- Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
- Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
- Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
- Perform other duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate.
- Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture.
- Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Two years’ experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
