About the role
We’re seeking a Medical Assistant (Float) to support multiple Vera Whole Health care centers across the Columbus market. This role provides both clinical and administrative support, ensuring smooth patient flow and high-quality care. You’ll work closely with providers and clinic teams while traveling between 2 locations as needed.
Responsibilities
- Take manual vital signs and document in the EMR
- Absorb and document patient history
- Assist providers with exams, diagnostic tests, and point-of-care testing
- Administer immunizations, injections, and oral medications
- Observe and record patient reactions
- Perform phlebotomy and prepare lab specimens
- Process labs, swabs, and other samples
- Provide routine patient education and self-management support
- Track preventive care needs, referrals, and follow-up items
- Conduct outreach to patients and specialists for referrals, care gaps, and records
- Manage patient flow throughout the care center
- Set up exam and procedure rooms based on visit needs
- Answer multi-line phones and assist with front desk duties when needed
- Schedule appointments and support patient registration
- Maintain inventory and restock supplies
- Serve as an external-facing representative for the clinic
- Travel to other sites for coverage or events as needed
- Perform QA controls and complete required documentation
- Follow safety and infection-control protocols
- Maintain HIPAA confidentiality
- Meet medical record documentation standards
- Participate in quality improvement and comply with OSHA/CLIA guidelines
- Participate in team meetings and huddles
- Support training, orientation, and ongoing competency assessments
- Adapt to flexible hours or shifts as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience
- Phlebotomy required; Primary Care experience preferred
- Athena experience a plus
Qualifications
- Ability to set up exam/procedure rooms using sterile/aseptic technique
- Basic knowledge of cleaning, sterilization, and autoclaving
- Understanding of immunization administration for all age groups
