Job Details

  • Shift: M-F, 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Occasional ½ day Saturday shift is required in Pulmonary / Cardiology at North Campus (estimated 2 times per calendar year).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Conducts quality checks.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Affords assistance in balancing workloads, coordinating and maintaining clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
  • Provides phlebotomy.
  • Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results.
  • Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
  • Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Pediatric experience is strongly preferred
