About the role
The Medical Assistant provides general front and back office support to professional staff at the Arcadia Primary Care Clinic. This role involves patient care, clinical duties, and clerical support in a team-based environment focused on improving patient experience and satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare treatment rooms for examinations.
- Obtain brief patient history, document chief complaint, and take vital signs (weight, temperature).
- Prep patients for exams and assist physicians/clinicians with exams and special procedures.
- Travel to off-site locations to perform diagnostic testing and assist with physical exam components, including TB testing, injections, phlebotomy, and other tasks.
- Administer and record injections and TB testing under physician supervision.
- Perform venipuncture, obtain specimens, and conduct CLIA-waived lab tests.
- Perform office procedures such as PFT, UDS, EBT, EKG, and fit testing within the scope of practice as directed by the provider.
- Handle telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, and others; document and relay information to providers for action.
- Phone pharmacies with approved medication orders/refills.
- Perform front office duties, including reception, telephone, chart maintenance, insurance forms, and scheduling.
- Organize and communicate with insurance companies for authorizations for therapies, testing, and specialist referrals.
- Provide referrals to case management as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) training program (required).
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- 6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Completion of an approved MA training program, OR completion of an unapproved program with successful passage of a certification exam from an accredited organization (required).
- Current Fingerprint Clearance Card from the State of Arizona, or eligibility to obtain one within seven working days of employment (required).
- Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) (preferred; HonorHealth will reimburse the cost of certification).
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
