Responsibilities

  • Supports staff teamwork
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information
  • Continuously strives to improve patient satisfaction
  • Schedules appointments
  • Verifies insurance
  • Checks in and out patients
  • Prepares charts and abstracts
  • Rooms patients
  • Conducts screenings
  • Takes medical histories
  • Records vital signs
  • Performs medication reconciliation
  • Prepares patients and examination rooms
  • Edits patients on tests, medications, and dietary information
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments
  • Ensures medical equipment is functioning properly
  • Maintains adequate supplies
  • Ensures medications are not expired
  • Responds to and returns telephone calls related to clinical needs
  • Trips appropriately
  • Aids with referrals as needed
  • Completes logs for CLIA compliance and other regulatory requirements
  • Follows policies on cleaning and sterilization of instruments
  • Aids with the completion of prior authorizations, worker’s compensation paperwork, and other administrative tasks

Requirements

  • Able to communicate in writing and verbally clearly and effectively with patients and co-workers
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize numerous technology software, such as the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Updates clinical and medical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities for professional growth
  • Proactively suggests quality improvement ideas and patient safety ideas

Qualifications

  • High School Grad or Equiv
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Customer service experience in medical office
  • 2 years of experience as medical assistant
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS)
    • American Association Medical Assistants (CMA)
    • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC)
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
    • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)

Skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
